We deliver 28 key services such as childcare, waste collection, parks maintenance, libraries, community facilities, and aquatic centres to over 380,000 residents.

 

The role
The Information and Data Architect optimises Council's information assets for better accessibility, findability, and usability. It involves designing data architecture, managing assets, and collaborating with stakeholders to ensure data integrity and governance.

 

Duties will include but not be limited to:

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand business requirements and translate them into logical and physical data models that align with the Council's data architecture vision and strategy.
  • Develop and maintain data models, data dictionaries, and metadata repositories to ensure consistency, integrity, and accessibility of data across the organisation. Define data structures, relationships, and attributes for optimal data management.
  • Apply user-centred design principles to ensure information systems are intuitive, user friendly, and provide an exceptional user experience including designing and optimising navigation structures, search functionalities, and user interfaces.
  • Ensure information and data quality, privacy, security, and compliance. Define access controls, encryption methods, and data masking techniques to protect sensitive data from unauthorised access or breaches.
  • Define and implement data classification, data retention, and data lifecycle management processes.
  • Design, implement, and optimise database systems to support efficient data storage, retrieval, and manipulation. Evaluate and select appropriate technologies and tools based on business requirements, scalability, and performance.
  • Identify opportunities for data integration and develop strategies for data movement, synchronisation, and consolidation across different systems, databases, and data sources.
  • Work closely with various stakeholders to understand analytical requirements and design data structures that support advanced analytics, reporting, and business intelligence initiatives.
  • Communicate complex concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders in a clear and concise manner.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices related to data architecture, database management, data governance, and information management. Evaluate and recommend new tools and technologies to enhance data architecture capabilities.

You will have:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, data science or a related field.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in information and data architecture frameworks, database design, and implementation, preferably in an enterprise environment.
  • Proven track record of successfully delivering data architecture solutions and data management projects.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in data modelling tools (e.g., ERwin, PowerDesigner), database technologies (e.g., Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL) and data governance frameworks (e.g., DAMA-DMBOK).
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills to understand complex data requirements, identify data patterns and relationships, and translate them into data models and structures.
  • Well-developed communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Collaboration skills to work effectively in cross-functional teams and build positive relationships with stakeholders.

 

The salary range for this opportunity starts at $111,988 (Grade I, Step 1) + 11.5% super. Salary may be negotiable dependent on skills and experience.
