The Role
We are seeking a skilled and strategic Team Leader for Waste Planning and Strategy to lead the development of innovative waste and resource recovery strategies and policies. This position plays a crucial role in delivering sustainable, future-focused services aligned with Council’s environmental goals, managing key contracts, and engaging stakeholders across all levels.

 

Duties will include but not be limited to:

  • Develop and manage major waste contracts, projects and service agreements aligned with Council objectives.
  • Lead strategy and policy initiatives to meet current and emerging waste challenges.
  • Coordinate project teams, consultants and contractors to deliver waste-related programs and plans.
  • Collect and analyse waste data to improve service delivery and inform decision-making.
  • Provide expert advice on waste planning, including development assessments.
  • Represent Council at state and industry forums and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support the development of Council’s Community Strategic documents.
  • Lead a team and foster a positive and productive work culture.

You will have

  • Tertiary qualification in Environmental Science, Project Management, or related field and/or equivalent demonstrated experience.
  • Proven project management experience, particularly in municipal waste or environmental services.
  • Strong technical understanding of waste strategies, contracts, and regulatory requirements.
  • Effective leadership, communication and stakeholder engagement capabilities.
  • Strong analytical, negotiation and policy development skills.
  • Experience in managing DAs and advising on waste infrastructure planning.
  • Class C Driver’s Licence.

 

The salary range for this opportunity starts at $126,229 (Grade J, Step1) + 12% super. Salary may be negotiable dependent on skills and experience.
