The role

We are seeking a diligent and customer-focused Rating Officer to join our Finance team. In this operational and administrative role, you will be responsible for maintaining the accuracy of Council’s rates database and supporting the delivery of rating services in line with legislative and policy requirements. Your work will ensure high-quality service for both internal stakeholders and the broader community.

 

Duties will include but not be limited to:

• Process rates-related customer, property, and account maintenance transactions.

• Provide accurate and timely updates to the rates database.

• Liaise with debt recovery agents, payment agencies, and government bodies regarding property and rates matters.

• Deliver excellent customer service via phone, email, and face-to-face interactions.

• Support the continuous improvement of rating processes and data quality.

• Assist the Team Leader and Coordinator with projects and reporting requirements.

• Contribute to meeting statutory deadlines and issue dates related to rates and charges.

You will have:

• Strong administrative skills and attention to detail.

• Experience in customer service, preferably in rates, finance, or a local government setting.

• Working knowledge or willingness to learn rating systems and relevant legislation (e.g. Local Government Act), with a growth mindset.

• Well-developed communication, organisational, and problem-solving skills.

• High level of data entry accuracy and document handling.

• Ability to work collaboratively and meet competing deadlines.

• Experience with INFOR Pathway and SharePoint systems is desirable.

• Tertiary qualifications in Finance, Accounting or Local Government Rates & Revenue are an advantage.

 

The salary range for this opportunity starts at $77,261 (Grade E, Step 1) plus 12% super.
