The role
The Executive Healthy Places Planner is an exciting new role, jointly funded by Council, the Sydney Local Health District and the South West Sydney Local Health District (LHDs) to address the impacts of rapid urbanisation, shifting demographics, and changing lifestyle needs across Canterbury-Bankstown and promote healthy built environments.
This Temporary, Part-time position (12-month contract, 4 days per week) will lead the integration of health-focused principles into urban planning, design and placemaking, ensuring our environments support the health, wellbeing, and resilience of our growing community.
You’ll also drive the delivery of the Healthy Places Partnership between Council and the two Local Health Districts, an innovative collaboration embedding public health into the heart of city planning.

Duties will include but not be limited to:
- Develop an evidence-based framework for healthy built environments.
- Strengthen planning controls to support walkability and healthy placemaking.
- Review development proposals with a health-focused lens.
- Assess Master Plans for alignment with healthy urban planning principles.
- Mentor staff and partners in healthy placemaking practices.
- Promote cross-department collaboration on health-focused planning.
- Work across three organisations to promote thought-leadership and negotiate healthy built environment outcomes.
- Contribute to planning for Health Precincts near Bankstown and Canterbury Hospitals.

You will have
- Tertiary qualifications in planning, design, architecture, or related field.
- Strong experience in strategic planning within government settings.
- Deep understanding of how urban planning supports public health outcomes.
- Proven ability to manage projects and influence senior-level policy.
- Flexible in working across multiple organisations and locations.
- Self-motivated with strong initiative and outcome delivery focus.
- Skilled in balancing priorities, tracking progress, and evaluating impact.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
Desirable (but not essential) attributes include: experience working within local and/or state government, and qualifications or a sound understanding of population health principles and disease prevention.
The salary range for this opportunity starts at $89,590 + Super. Salary is negotiable dependent on skills and experience.
