The role
We are offering an exciting opportunity for a university student in their final or penultimate year of study to join our Finance Team as a Cadet Accountant. This position will support a range of finance and accounting functions across Council, allowing the cadet to gain hands-on experience and develop practical skills in local government finance.
Duties will include but not be limited to:
- Assist with maintaining the accuracy and integrity of Council’s financial ledgers.
- Support treasury functions, cash management, and statutory reporting.
- Help prepare Council’s annual budget and monthly financial performance reports.
- Process general ledger journals and maintain asset register data.
- Assist with internal and external audit activities.
- Provide support across finance areas including Accounts Payable, Receivable, Treasury, Taxation, and Rates.
- Undertake other duties as directed by the Team Leader Financial Processes.

You will have
- Currently in final or penultimate year of tertiary studies in Accounting, Commerce, Business or Finance.
- Good attention to detail, accuracy and ability to meet deadlines.
- Ability to work both independently and within a team.
- Basic proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and email.
- Good interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
- Motivated and eager to learn, with interest in local government finance.
- Work experience or understanding of finance/accounting processes is desirable.
The salary range for this opportunity starts at $58,494 (T8) + 12% super. Salary may be negotiable dependent on skills and experience.
